The Governor of Kerala, P Sathasivam on Tuesday has sought an urgent report from the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Kerala University regarding the seizure of bundles of university answer sheets from the residence of Sivaranjith, one of the accused in the stabbing case at the Thiruvananthapuram University College.
During raids by the Kerala police, bundles of plain answer sheets and the college seal were recovered from the house of the accused and these are suspected to have been used by the student to cheat during his exams.
Sivaranjith, the SFI unit president of the University College, is the main accused and the one who stabbed a third-year student in the chest during a scuffle on Friday. The police arrested him along with five other SFI committee members of the college on Monday.
Following the seizure of answer sheets, VP Mahadevan Pillai, the VC of Kerala University had stated that the university will probe into the matter and also clarified that the university was not responsible for the missing bundles of answer sheets which was with the University College. Stating that the university did not have the practice of taking back surplus booklets from colleges after each set of exams, the VC added that the university would decide later on what action is to be taken in the issue.
It was also found that Sivaranjith had passed the Police Constable (Armed Police Battalion) exam conducted by the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC). But the discovery of university answer sheets from his house has raised questions over discrepancies about the PSC examinations. Responding to this, Advocate MK Sakeer, the state PSC chairman, said that an internal vigilance team of the commission will probe into the matter and that their decision on appointment of the three accused candidates will be kept in abeyance until further orders from the Government of Kerala.
