Even as the on-ground protests and social media activism over the rape and murder of 30-year-old law student Jisha in Perumbavoor seem to have died down, an online petition is seeking to keep the issue alive.  

Amnesty International India has started an online petition to demand an independent investigation into the case. It has called upon the new home minister to ensure justice for Jisha’s family.

With a target of 20,000 signatories, over 9,500 people have already signed the petition.

The petition alleges that despite an FIR being filed, a copy has not been provided to Jisha’s family, as is mandatory under law. It also points out that no arrests were made after Jisha’s mother lodged a complaint in 2014 to the Aluva police that a neighbour had been threatening the family. 

Amnesty International which started in 1961, is a global movement campaigning to protect human rights and ensure justice.
