A police driver in Thiruvananthapuram has been booked for allegedly assaulting the daughter of Battalion ADGP Sudhesh Kumar, while she has also been booked for deterring a public servant from discharging his duty.

Driver Gavaskar was booked after he lodged a complaint against the ADGP's daughter for allegedly beating him up at the Museum police station in Thiruvananthapuram.

The incident took place on Thursday morning, but came to light late in the evening. Gavaskar is the driver of ADGP (Battalion) Sudhesh Kumar. On Thursday morning Gavaskar dropped the ADGP's daughter Sniktha for her morning walk at the Napier Museum compound in the city. Sniktha allegedly verbally abused him when he was slightly late to pick her up after her walk.

According to reports, Sniktha had demanded that they keys of the vehicle be handed over to her. Gavaskar refused to do so, saying that he won’t be able to hand over the key as it is an official vehicle.

She then stepped out of the vehicle saying she would go by an autorickshaw but ended up leaving her mobile phone inside the car. Gavaskar in the complaint says that she beat him on the neck and shoulder when she came back to get her mobile phone and this was not the first time she had behaved rudely with him, stated reports.

However, Sniktha lodged a complaint against Gavaskar for outraging a woman’s modesty and abusing. The police booked Gavaskar under non-bailable offenses.

It was by around 11pm that the police confirmed that they had registered case on both the complaints.

Museum Sub Inspector G Sunil told TNM that Gavaskar has been booked under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to woman's modesty), which is a non-bailable offense and 294 (obscene acts and songs).

“The woman has been booked under IPC section 332 for voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty. IPC section 332 is also a non-bailable offense. We have been investigating the complaints and haven’t reached any conclusion yet,” the Sub-inspector said.

Gavaskar has been admitted at the Medical College Hospital Thiruvananthapuram.

The police association lodged a complaint against the ADGPs family with DGP Loknath Behera.
