AIIMS still remains a dream for Kerala

Written by : TNM

Kerala has been dreaming of setting up an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the state for quite a while, but it seems that it won’t be fulfilled in the near future.

Earlier, the Centre had said that the AIIMS would be granted for the state if it has identified a suitable place for the institution.

The state had given a detailed report citing four proposed sites for AIIMS.

The Centre had also promised that the ministry would conduct a detailed site inspection, but it didn’t happen.

Manorama News reports that though the state submitted a comprehensive report again as per the directive of the Union Health Ministry, nothing much happened in the state's favour.

The Kerala government now feels that there is little chance of realising the dream in the present political scenario.

According to the report, the Centre had last week allotted Rs 4900 crore project for setting up  AIIMS in Andhra, Maharashtra and West Bengal, but there was no mention of Kerala.
