A day after a heart recipient from Kerala came down heavily on Malayalam actor Sreenivasan for terming organ donation as a fraud business, the actor apologized for his comments “that were based on incorrect information.”

“I received incorrect information on organ donation, on the basis of which I made such remarks. I apologise for doing so,” the actor told reporters on Wednesday.

The apology came after a heart recipient Mathew Achadan slammed the actor for making comments “without understanding the matters clearly.”

Recently, Sreenivasan had said in a press meet that it was the greedy hospitals and the drug mafia that benefitted out of organ transplants, and that most of the patients who received organs were not even alive.

Responding to the actor’s comments, Mathew Achadan, an auto driver who underwent a heart transplant in 2015, took to Facebook on Tuesday to state that he was alive only because of the heart he received at a time when he was expecting death.

“15 months ago, I was not even in a position to stand on my own feet. Now like any others I live a normal life. I run an auto rickshaw and manage to support myself. It is painful that a popular writer and actor like you is discouraging organ donation, which is actually a great deed. It hurts the people who donate and also hurts people like me who receive the organ to continue living,” Achadan wrote.
