The project was inspired in the aftermath of the Jisha tragedy. Reports quote Dileep as saying that this is to ensure that there are no more tragic endings such as Jisha’s in future.

 

The only criterion to qualify for the said scheme -meant for the poverty-stricken- is to have at least two cents in your name with priority being given to unemployed widows.

 

In the first phase, six houses are to be built at a cost of around Rs.5 lakhs each, with the first one to be constructed at Thekkekkara Panchayat of Mavelikara in Alappuzha for Indira and her adopted daughter who was reportedly abandoned among the dead.

 

The foundation stone will be laid by the actor himself on ‘Chingam Onnu’ (i.e. August 17 which marks the beginning of the Malayalam Calendar).

 

The ‘Surakshitha Bhavanam’ (Secure Homes) project has been undertaken under the aegis of Dileep’s own GP Charitable Trust based in Aluva and the Kerala Action Force presided over by Dr. Tony Fernandes along with the support of various NGOs and the masses in general.

 

Each house would be around 430 square feet and will comprise a sit-out, a hall, two bedrooms and a kitchen and is expected to be completed within a period of three months.
