Cases of fever are increasing rapidly throughout the state with nine persons having died of fever and dengue in the past two days and as many as 47 persons succumbing in June so far.

One death each was reported from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Kottayam districts due to fever. 

As far as dengue related deaths were concerned, one was reported from Thiruvananthapuram and one each from Malappuram and Palakkad. 

Among the 47 people that have died in June, 22 died of suspected dengue, nine of viral fever, three of Hepatitis A, five of leptospirosis, seven of H1N1 and one person died of malaria, according to a report in The New Indian Express. 

As many as two lakh people have been affected with fever in June. 

As per official records, 17,789 people were affected with viral fever cases across the state on Friday. 

As was the case at the beginning of the fever season, the capital district Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest number of cases, on Friday as well. 

Among the 161 confirmed dengue cases reported from across the state, Thiruvananthapuram topped the list with 62 cases. 

In Thiruvananthapuram, one person died of leptospirosis while a person in Kozhikode died due to HINI. 

The official figures provided by the Directorate of Health Services put the death toll at 47 but the figure had crossed hundred as per unofficial figures.  

As many as 23 dengue cases were reported from Ernakulam, followed by Thrissur at 16. 

The number of dengue fever cases reported from other districts are Kollam-12, Alappuzha, Kannur and Kasargod with eight each, Wayanad- 7, Malappuram and Kozhikode six each and Pathanamthitta five.
