The News Minute | August 1, 2014 | 02:06 pm ISTThe 47-day trawling ban in Kerala came to an end on Thursday midnight much to the joy of  the fishermen community in the state. The fishermen community are now ready to venture into the sea hoping to get good harvest, states a report by The New Indian Express.Around 3,500 boats were berthed by fishermen and boat owners at various fishing harbours during the beginning of the ban. Those are now ready to sail. However, the government has not address the issue of hauling small pelagic fishes from the sea. Traditional fishermen often use small sized net to catch these fishes, and this could lead to a "drain the fishing wealth and also adversely impact the healthy ecosystem in the sea". This could later lead to a conflict unless the government intervenes now, adds the report.
