30 rail over-bridges in Kerala still not functional- Protests, delay in land acquisition major roadblocks

The News Minute | May 28, 2014 | 7:40 PM IST The work on nearly 30 railway overbridges (ROBs), which were approved over the last 10 years, has been delayed thanks to local portests and other issues relating to land acquisition according to officials at the Roads and Bridges Development – Kerala (RBDC-K). Now, the agency is on the wait to get land for 10 sanctioned projects.A report in Times of India says that the railways in all sanctioned 75 ROBs in the state, and only 29 of these are now operational. The work on 15 ROBs is still on. On February, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy opened the largest rail over-bridge at Koyilandy in Kozhikode. The bridge that connects Koyilandy, Thamarasseri and Muthambi was built at a cost of Rs 18.12 crores. The construction was undertaken by the railways.
