The Ernakulam Central Police have registered cases against 27 individuals based on a complaint filed by popular Malayalam actor Honey Rose. The police also arrested a man, identified as Shaji from Kumbalam, on Monday, January 6, in connection with the same.
The actor’s complaint alleged that several individuals posted obscene and derogatory comments under the social media posts related to her. She also submitted screenshots of the comments to the police.
Honey Rose had released a strongly worded statement on January 5, accusing an unnamed person of stalking her and making derogatory remarks laced with sexual innuendos after she refused to attend the events he hosted. Her statement highlighted the repeated harassment she faced and condemned the behaviour, calling it a violation of personal dignity.
The controversy has come months after businessman Boby Chemmanur faced public backlash for making objectionable comments about Honey Rose at the inauguration of his jewellery store. Although the actor did not directly name him in her statement, her remarks alluded to persistent harassment from individuals seeking to tarnish her reputation.
“When an individual persistently follows and tries to insult me using innuendos, people close to me ask whether I remain silent because I enjoy such statements or because I agree with everything being said. This individual invited me to certain events, but I refused to attend. In retaliation, they began deliberately showing up at events I attend and, whenever possible, publicly making disparaging remarks about me in ways that demean womanhood through media outlets,” the statement read.
