2011 abduction attempt on senior Malayalam actor: Pulsar Suni appears for trial

The trial proceedings for a 2011 abduction bid on a veteran Malayalam woman actor began this week and Pulsar Suni, the main accused in the case, appeared at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Tuesday. Suni aka Sunil Kumar is also the prime accused in the 2017 Malayalam actor assault case, in which popular star Dileep is the eighth accused.

On January 5, 2011, a gang led by Pulsar Suni allegedly attempted to abduct the veteran actor when she had arrived in Kochi to act in a movie by leading film producer Johny Sagariga, according to reports. During this incident, Suni was serving as Johny Sagariga’s driver. He had allegedly conspired with his gang to abduct and blackmail the female actor. However, the plan reportedly failed as the gang abducted another actor by accident.

The veteran actor was later picked up by Suni’s gang from a railway station and when the vehicle took a detour she sensed trouble and contacted her husband, another leading producer in the industry, who in turn passed on the information to the police and the film’s producer.

It was only after news broke out that Pulsar Suni was prime accused in the 2017 actor assault case did the veteran actor file a police complaint on the incident. Three persons, including Suni, have been arrested so far in the incident.

Johny Sagariga was also cross-examined in the case.
