The Bengaluru police have booked the driver of a school bus in the city for drunk driving. This is yet another arrest in a series of such incidents this year. Despite regular checks by the police, they continue to nab school bus drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol.

Mukunad, the driver of a bus that belongs to Vagdevi Vilas school in Marathahalli, was held by the police on Saturday. While the police stopped the school bus after they found out that Mukunad was not wearing a uniform, the police soon found out that he was under the influence of alcohol.

At the time the police stopped the vehicle at Munekola junction, Mukunad was ferrying as many as 22 high-school children.

The police told The Times of India: “The driver tested positive during the alcometer check. We seized the bus and arranged alternative vehicles for the students."

This incident is the latest in the series of cases booked against school bus drivers in the city. Earlier in June, the police had detained two drunk drivers in just two days, raising questions over the safety of the children in school buses.

Despite the Bengaluru police order that makes it mandatory for the schools to do alcometer checks on its bus drivers before they begin work, the police continue to nab drunk drivers. In earlier instances, the bus drivers of Delhi Public School and Sri Chaithanya school, have been booked.
