A 50-year-old woman on Tuesday was mowed down by a train at Chamarajapuram station at 7.25 am.

According to The Times of India report, the deceased, identified as Prema B, was mowed down by the train while she was trying to cross a railway gate in order to board the Mysuru-Chamarajapuram train.

However, angry passengers at the station alleged that Prema’s body was removed from the track only an hour after the accident. During this time, while she lay on the tracks, another Mysuru-bound train from Chamarajapuram ran over her, further mutilating her body.

Prema, a resident of Bogadi in Mysuru, was an assistant at Chamarajapuram SP’s office.

TOI quoted Prema’s son-in-law Sunil GM as saying that the body was removed well after 9 am. Sunil had dropped her off at the station as usual.

As other passengers vented their anger at the railway authorities over their poor handling of the accident, the authorities were quick to pass the buck and blamed the Government Railway Police (GRP) for the delay in removing the body.

While GRP Inspector RP Ashok claimed that they were informed about the accident only around 8.30am, the railway divisional manager claimed that they had informed GRP at 7.45am, a few minutes after the accident.

The body was handed over to the family after autopsy.
