A 23-year-old woman techie was allegedly raped by a man who barged into her room at a paying guest accommodation in Bengaluru on Friday.

The survivor, a native of Tamil Nadu, was asleep in her room at the fourth floor of the building, when the man barged into her room in Parappana Agrahara. 

She had left the door unlocked, as her roommate would only return at 5am.

The Times of India reports that the man barged into her room and demanded that she hand over gold and other valuables. The woman, who has been living in Bengaluru for the past six months did not have any valuables with her at the time, and so offered to give her debit card instead. 

The man then allegedly raped her at knife-point. Hours later, her roommate returned only to find the woman in shock. The woman filed a police complaint on Saturday and the police is on a look out for the man who is believed to be in his 30s.

“Unfortunately, there are hardly any CCTV cameras installed in the buildings near the PG accommodation. As it was dark, the woman couldn't see the man's face properly .However, we have collected some vital clues about the culprit. One of the police teams is concentrating on technical aspects like mobile phone signals in that particular zone,“ a senior police officer told TOI.

Deccan Herald reports that the city police will write to BBMP demanding stringent action against PG owners, who do not have proper safety measures in place.

Police inspector Prashant Babu of Parappana Agrahara police station confirmed to The News Minute that the accused has still not been identified and that police has launched a probe.
