A village in B S Yeddyurappa's bastion is boycotting re-elections to a seat his son is contesting

The News Minute | August 21, 2014 | 12.09 pm ISTA village in BJP’s newly appointed national vice-president B S Yeddyurappa’s old Assembly constituency of Shikaripur has boycotted the by-polls being held today, as the poll booth is too far away.Three Assembly constituencies in Karnataka are seeing re-election as the MLAs of these constituencies were elected to the Lok Sabha in May. Yeddyurappa who represented the Shikaripura constituency is now Shimoga MP. The other two are Chikkodi-Sadalaga and Bellary Rural Assembly seats.Co-incidentally, Yeddyurappa’s son B Y Raghavendra is contesting the Shikaripura seat, and Yeddyurappa is currently holding the Shimoga seat that was represented by Raghavendra in the last Lok Sabha.Malagondakoppa village in Shikaripur taluk, Shimoga district has 380 voters, who are unhappy with the Election Commission for having set up a booth 3 km away from their village. According to a report in Kannada daily Kannada Prabha, elderly and handicapped voters would find it difficult to walk the distance as there is no other transport available.
