Late on Sunday night, a father walked out of the Government Hospital in Anakel, holding the lifeless body of his 3-year-old son close to him. He was desperate, looking for an ambulance to carry his dear child’s body, but to no avail. A few minutes later, the father rode pillion on a two-wheeler, carrying his son's body.
The Deccan Chronicle reports that the father of the child was forced to carry his son Raheem's body on a two-wheeler, as the hospital allegedly failed to provide him an ambulance. The parents of the child are migrant labourers from Assam.
Raheem, who was playing outside his house at 7.30 pm on Sunday, was reportedly mowed down by a bike, after which his father rushed him to the government hospital. However, the doctors declared him brought dead, but did not inform the police about the death. The DC report states that the father waiting for at least an hour outside the hospital in search of a vehicle to carry his son's body. A man in a two-wheeler is seen talking to the father, after which, he rides pillion, with Raheem's body still in hand.
While the DC report stated that the hospital had allegedly denied ambulance, forcing the father to resort to other means to get his son's body home, the hospital authorities have denied this.
Dr Anitha, duty doctor at the Hospital on Sunday night told DC: “The boy was dead when he was brought to the hospital around 8 pm. We examined and told the father that he had died half an hour ago. As soon as the news broke, the boy’s father grabbed the body and ran away.”
Anekal police inspector told The News Minute that the boy's father was in shock and had walked away from the hospital carrying his son's body. The police have identified the family and Raheem's body has been taken to the same hospital to conduct post-mortem.
"His relatives got the two-wheeler and they went away. Doctors tried to look for him but some people near a shop next to the hospital said that the father had gone away on a bike," the inspector said.
The police however, refused to confirm the allegation that the hospital did not provide an ambulance.
