Uber, Ola bike taxis illegal, don't use them: Bengaluru transport authority

Written by : TNM Staff

Within a few days of taxi service providers Ola and Uber launching their new 'bike taxi' services, the transport department has termed them illegal and urged people not to use them.

"The regional transport authority has not given any permits to Uber and Ola to operate bike taxis. Therefore, the bike taxis are illegal. If anyone uses the bike taxi service offered by them and meets with an accident, they are not liable for any kind of insurance. Therefore, the department urges the general public not to use these bike services," the Times of India quotes a release from the department.

Speaking to TOI, a senior department official said:

"It is a must for them to register with the RTA, headed by the deputy commissioner. They cannot start providing services on their own; they have to meet a certain standard and other parameters fixed by the department. Taxi aggregators are totally into illegal business and we have already initiated action against them.It is not only permits, but these aggregators have come up with their own bike fares; no one has authorised them to charge Re 1 per minute for a trip. We urge people not to take part in this illegal business."
