Two foreigners lost their lives in a suspected electrocution incident at a swimming pool in Bengaluru’s Conrad Hotel, a five-star facility, in Ulsoor on October 30.

The victims are thought to have been electrocuted in the hotel’s swimming pool on the third floor. They have been identified as 57-year-old German national Alexander Maximilian Theiss, a Lufthansa airline crew member

and 45-year-old Slovakian national Juraj Horvat, who worked as an IBM project manager, according to reports.

A TOI report said Theiss was brought dead to the hospital and that Horvat did not respond to resuscitation attempts and was eventually declared dead too.

Two bystanders have also been injured. The injured individuals—Mathew Desantis, a 41-year-old American tourist, and Rahul Tiwari, a 28-year-old hotel lifeguard—were rushed to Manipal Hospital. Reports say both men are stable and out of danger.

The American national is expected to be discharged soon. The lifeguard reportedly jumped into the pool to rescue Theiss and Horvat.

The Conrad brand is part of Hilton Worldwide’s luxury hotels.

Police have initiated a formal inquiry into the deaths and would determine how live electricity entered the pool water.
