Even as civic authorities are carrying out the demolition drive in various parts of the city, the State government is contemplating to amend the Karnataka Lake Conservation and Development Authority Bill, 2014 to regularise the existing buildings on the lake beds and protect the interests of ordinary citizens, reported The Hindu.Some of the layouts have come up on lake beds which previously existed but today have died. However, they still exist according to government records. Action would be taken against errant officials and those who colluded with land developers, said Home Minister K J George.Meanwhile, JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy has demanded that the Bengaluru Urban district authorities stop the on-going demolition drives. He also said that the demolition must be not carried on until the panel headed by Congress MLA K.B. Koliwad tabelled a report "which discusses the extent of encroachment of lake beds in the city", said the report.He further targeted the properties owned by MP and BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje, former PWD Minister C.M. Udasi, retired IAS officer I.M. Vittal Murthy and a sitting judge Karnataka High Court in Dollars Colony in JP Nagar. He asked if these properties too would be demolished since the land was developed by the BDA and was located on a lake bed.
