The News Minute | March 18, 2015 | 12.38 pm ISTBowing to pressure from MLAs of some of the parched districts of southern Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday agreed to set aside Rs 1,000 crore in the budget for the Yettinahole project.The chief minister met with MLAs from Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Bengaluru Rural and Tumakuru districts had boycotted the Assembly proceedings on Monday over the non-inclusion of the Yettinahole project in the budget and also demanding that the state government make the provision of drinking water a priority.The project has been controversial because it envisages the "transfer of excess water" from "Water-surplus areas" to "water-deficit" areas. Read: Karnataka government given two days to include Yettinahole project in budgetOn Tuesday, Siddaramaiah and Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa held a meeting with these MLAs in the office of the deputy speaker Shivashankar Reddy, and agreed to set aside Rs 1,000 crore for the project, which aims to provide drinking water to some of the water-starved districts of the state.Siddaramaiah has agreed to make an official inclusion when he replies to the discussion on the budget. He has also agreed to examine their demand to set up a committee to oversee the implementation and also form a corporation to initiate the construction work. Tweet Follow @thenewsminute
