The News Minute | March 31, 2015 | 09:00 am IST Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday told the Legislative Assembly that sewage water generated in Bengaluru will be treated and then diverted to the parched lakes in Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts where ground water levels have fallen dratically, states a report by Bangalore Mirror. The project is expected to start this year. "Sewerage from Koramangala-Challaghata valley will be treated and supplied to the lakes of Kolar. By April a detail project will be ready, and by September work on the project will commence. A secondary Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) will be set up at the valley at a cost of Rs 750 crore," Siddaramaiah said.He added that the sewerage from Hebbal-Nagawara valley will be treated and supplied to the lakes of Chikkaballapur. This decision by the Karnataka government is likely to also impact Tamil Nadu. A March 30 report by Bangalore Mirror stated that 1,482 million litres of Bengaluru's sewage water drained into Tamil Nadu through various river courses on a daily basis.
