The Bengaluru Central City Corporation has said actor Prakash Raj’s name was marked as “Shifted” in the electoral roll after a house-to-house verification found that he no longer resided at the address where he was registered as a voter.
In a statement, the civic body said the Booth Level Officer (BLO) concerned conducted an inquiry with neighbours and the property manager at No. 266, Garden Apartment, the address at which Raj was registered.
“The BLO conducted an official inquiry with the neighbours and the property manager. It was also confirmed by the owner of the flat through mobile call that actor Prakash Raj is not residing in the said flat from past four years and presently other tenants are residing,” the statement said.
Based on these statements, a mahazar, or spot inspection report, was prepared and Raj’s voter status was officially marked as “Shifted”, the civic body said. It added that the property manager reaffirmed the information during a telephone call on August 11, 2026, at 5.30 pm.
Jagadish G, Additional District Election Officer (Central) and Commissioner of Bengaluru Central City Corporation, said he subsequently spoke to Raj over the telephone. According to Jagadish, the actor confirmed that he was not residing at the registered address and was currently living at a different address in the Shantinagar Assembly Constituency.
“Later, through BLO Form-6 may be processed at the present residing address,” Jagadish said, adding that Raj’s allegations had been “verified and found not true”.
The civic body maintained that the action was taken in accordance with the due process of law and statutory guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India.
Raj had on Tuesday, August 11, alleged that his name had been removed from Bengaluru’s voter list during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka. His name appeared in the ASDDO category — Absent, Shifted Address, Dead, Duplicate and Others.
The actor, who has frequently criticised alleged irregularities in electoral rolls, said he was among the 65 lakh voters whose names had been “deleted”. He also highlighted his long association with the area, saying he was born, raised and educated there and began his theatre career in the constituency. Raj contested the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency as an independent candidate in 2019.
His voter status comes amid a separate criminal case arising from a private complaint alleging that he illegally possessed four voter identity cards registered at different locations. A city court granted him conditional bail on July 10 in the case, in which a non-bailable warrant had earlier been issued against him.
The Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer has urged voters to verify their electoral details and approach their BLO if their names have been wrongly flagged during the revision process.
