A 21-year-old student from Kollam has accused seniors at Kanachur Medical College in Mangaluru of repeatedly ragging him and his classmates, confining them in a hotel room and threatening them with violence. Ullal police have registered a case following the complaint, and seven students have been issued notices, according to reports.

The complainant is a first-year BSc Neuroscience Technology student at the college in Deralakatte. His complaint describes three incidents on October 2, October 15 and October 22, involving alleged threats, forced singing and the humiliation of a junior student.

On October 2, senior students Ashab and Asfaq allegedly confronted the complainant near a restaurant opposite the college after he went outside the campus without wearing his uniform. One of them threatened to break his limbs and said he would complain to the college authorities, according to the complaint.

On October 15, Ashab allegedly called the student repeatedly and asked him and six classmates to meet near the Clock Tower. The group was then taken to a room at a nearby hotel and prevented from leaving until they sang songs, the complaint alleged. Ashab allegedly recorded their performance on his mobile phone and circulated the video among other students.

The complaint further alleged that the seniors threatened to target a junior student every day and warned that anyone who reported the incidents would have their limbs broken and be sent to a graveyard.

Ullal police have registered a case against Ashab, Asfaq and others. The investigation is under way.
