A gram panchayat member on Sunday has been booked for allegedly manhandling a woman while vandalizing an under-construction house, in Chokkanahalli in Rajanukunte.

According to reports, the Rajanukunte police have registered a case against Chokkanahalli Venkatesh - a member in Sonnehalli Gram Panchayat – under Section 354 IPC.

The Hindu reports that Venkatesh, allegedly belonging to the Congress party, tried to demolish Renukeshwar’s house, as the latter did not vote for him in the recently concluded gram panchayat election and also campaigned against him.

Claiming that Renukeshwar was building the house on land belonging to the government, Venkatesh is reported to have manhandled Renukeshwar’s wife when the couple rushed to the spot to stop the demolition.

Reports say that Renukeshwar had all the necessary documents, which showed that the land belonged to him.
