The recent spate of deferred joining dates in Karnataka are affecting not only IIM graduates but even engineering students.

Six students from MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) had their joining dates postponed by three months.

Savitha Konna M, head of placement and training, MSRIT said recession and lack of projects could be twin factors for companies to put off the joining dates.

At Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management (SCEM), the joining dates of six students was deferred by one year. Rashmi Bhandary, head of placements at SCEM, said, “We only invite reputed companies which won't create such problems. Last year, we had 122 companies recruiting from our college.“

Nine students from RV College of Engineering had interned at two startups, which delayed their joining dates by five months.

In Mangaluru, a reputed IT company delayed the joining date of 27 students of Srinivasa Institute of Technology by five to six months. The students were reportedly offered temporary jobs as teachers at the firm.

It's an anxious time for these students, having to deal with delayed joining dates at the start of their careers.
