March in Mangaluru for a child victim of alleged rape

The News Minute | March 22, 2015 | 05:14 pm IST Saturday night is Mangaluru saw several hundreds of people taking part in a candlelight march demanding justice for the four-year-old LKG who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a school van driver earlier this month. Called the "Justice for baby Nirbhaya" march, the protestors taking part reportedly also sought action against the school authorities. The alleged incident took place on March 13. According to a report by The New Indian Express, the driver allegedly raped the minor when she was alone in the van. Her parents noticed the bruises on her body and filed a complaint with the police.The accused has been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days. The person has been booked under Police the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012.Following the arrest, tension heightened in the area and people also resorted to pelting stones at the police and its vehicles, states a report by The Times of India.
