Lokayukta Police files charge-sheet against ex-mayor Shantha Kumari in DA case

Former Mayor N Shantha Kumari is in trouble after the Lokayukta Police, investigating a disproportionate assets (DA) case against her, found her to be in possession of assets in excess of her known sources of income.According to report in Bangalore Mirror, the police who raided Shantha Kumari’s residence on March 16, 2012, had discovered that 45% of her assets were not in tune with her known sources of income. They have also filed a charge-sheet which is running into over 5,000 pages. The police do not require sanction from the government to prosecute her as she no longer holds office, the report added."The charge-sheet has been prepared and sufficient incriminating material has been found against her. It will be submitted to court soon after the final scrutiny by police wing brass," a source was quoted by the paper.The officials, during the raid, had found large assets to the extent of 1.29 crore which included 750 grams of gold worth around Rs 17 lakh, Rs 20 lakh cash and various lands and bank accounts.
