A day after the son of Vinayak Bapat, the managing director of Kirloskar Electric company, was abducted from Bengaluru's Yelahanka on Tuesday, the kidnappers reportedly abandoned the 19-year-old near Jalahalli and fled.

The victim is a second year college student and he was abandoned by the kidnappers after the latter sensed that the police were closing in.

The Deccan Herald reported:

According to the police, around 5.30 pm on Tuesday, Eshan was returning home from college in a BMTC bus as he had given his bike for servicing. He got down near Yelahanka and was having a snack at a nearby hotel when two people came in a car and bundled him inside and fled. Around 8 pm, the abductors called Eshan’s mother from his mobile phone and told her that her son had been kidnapped...Meanwhile, Eshan’s family members and friends were informed about the kidnap. They informed a few senior police officers, who alerted DCP (North-East) P S Harsha.

The report adds that the police tracked the son's phone to Whitefield, where the signal was cut off.
