Karnataka to rename Belgaum to Belagavi in November

Written by : TNM

The News Minute | October 11, 2014 | 08:19 am IST Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said that the Karnataka government has decided to rename Belgaum as Belagavi in November, reports PTI. The decision was taken after a meeting with leaders of political parties, various organisations and other experts keeping in mind the boundary row between Karnataka and Maharashtra, adds the report.  Maharashtra claims that Belgaum should be a part of it and a case is ongoing in the Supreme Court in connection to this. However, a report in The New Indian Express states that Siddaramaiah said that the decision to rename Belgaum had no connection to the border suit pending in the Supreme Court. The official renaming will be done in November.
