Karnataka man forcefully aborts wife's baby, goes into hiding

Written by : TNM Staff

When Siddappa Charaganavi, from Belagavi in Karnataka, took his pregnant wife for a check-up to a hospital on Friday, little did she expect that she would land up losing her baby.

The wife, who was  pregnant with a girl child, was taken to a nearby hospital, after Siddapppa claimed that she needed treatment. However, he proceeded to facilitate the abortion of his wife's pregnancy.

This, without the knowledge of the woman, reports The Hindu

While she was made to believe that she was being taken to Spandana Hospital for normal treatment, her husband Siddappa told the doctor to abort her pregnancy instead.  While further details of her pregnancy is unclear, the report says that the doctor Subhash Patil  and other staff terminated the pregnancy without the woman's consent or even, her knowledge.

After the incident happened on Friday, she filed a complaint with the police. Based on the wife's complaint, the Belagavi police subsequently booked Siddappa for female feoticide. However, Siddappa and the doctor are reportedly at large.

Earlier in March, the police had busted an abortion racket in Belagavi after finding 19 aborted female foetuses dumped in a sewer.
