Written by : TNM

Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao on Friday handed over the case of alleged bribery scandal in the Lokayukta to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) for an independent probe, reported The Hindu.Accompanied by Upa Lokayukta Justice SB Majage, Rao said people would doubt the credibility of the Lokayukta if investigation was carried out by the Lokayukta police, and neither would they entertain such complaints.“Since some sections of the media alleged that the suspect is related to me, I have decided to take up a suo motu investigation invoking section 7(1)(b) of Karnataka Lokayukta Act and ordered probe into the issue by an outside agency having necessary technical competence," he was quoted as saying by the paper.Last month an incident of alleged bribery demand of Rs 1 crore by a man, claiming to be Krishna Rao, from a PWD engineer had surfaced. Krishna Rao had threatened the engineer that his residence would be raided if the amount was not paid. The engineer then approached Lokayukta (City) police SP Sonia Narang and filed a complaint in this regard. Based on this, Narang submitted a report to the Registrar on May 11.Recently, Upa Lokayukta Subhash B Adi directed Narang to conduct a “free and fair” probe and submit a detailed report by July 6.Justice Rao denied knowing Krishna Rao and or that he was his PA. Another name that has cropped up in the case is of Ashwin Rao. Justice Rao acknowledged that it was his son, however he had nothing to do with the case, the report added. He said he was ready to resign if found guilty in the probe.
