Karnataka govt declares holidays for schools and colleges due to bus strike

Written by : TNM Staff

The Karnataka government on Sunday declared two-day holiday for both private and government schools  and colleges in the state on Monday and Tuesday in lieu of the BMTC and KRSTC strike.

The announcement from the CM’s office came after BMTC and KRSTC declared that almost 23, 000  buses would  be taken off the road owing to government's refusal to revise wages.

Bangalore University has postponed all exams scheduled for tomorrow.

State Project Director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Jaffer told TNM that the final decisions will be taken by deputy commissioners of each district. It is however unlikely that they would reverse the annoucement made by the state government.

KSRTC and BMTC bus workers have been demanding a 15% hike in DA, but talks with the government hit a road block.

The Times of India report states that the Indian Vehicle Drivers Trade Union has also joined the indefinite strike from Monday.
