After asking Nestle to withdraw all stocks of Maggi noodles from stores in the state, the Karnataka government has asked the company to destroy them too. Stocks have reportedly been sent to a cement factory near Kalaburgi to be incinerated, reported The Times of India.Tests conducted on samples of Maggi noodles had revealed the presence of monosodium glutamate (MSG), although lead was present within permissible limits in the state. As there was no clarity on what was the permissible limit for MSG, the health and family welfare department ordered Nestle to withdraw its stock from the market.Explaining the move, the government said the ban order by FSSAI meant the product was considered hazardous for consumption, deeming the product “expired” and thus needed to be destroyed.The department reportedly has booked cases against Nestle, accusing them of issuing misleading advertisements, containing heavy metals, contaminants etc.The government has dispatched three letters to FSSAI to ascertain the permissible limits of MSG. It has also obtained “special permission” from the Centre to conduct a second test on Maggi noodles and other brands, the results of which is expect this weekend, the report added.
