The Karnataka government is likely to issue notices to Nestle, following test results on samples of Maggi noodles which revealed the presence of monosodium glutamate (MSG).According to a Times of India report, the samples were tested at TUV SUD, a private laboratory in Peenya in Bengaluru which showed the level of MSG to be at 0.053 parts per million. “Since the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) doesn't have clarity regarding the permissible levels, the state government has written to the regulator,” Health Minister U T Khader was quoted as saying by the paper.The government is unable to take a stand on MSG since the Centre has not prescribed the permissible limits for it, added the report.In a statement issued last week, Nestle had claimed that they do not add the flavour enhancer MSG to noodles sold in India.Preliminary tests in Karnataka had revealed that the presence of lead was within permissible limits; however, the state government had directed Nestle to withdraw all the stock of Maggi noodles from stores.
