The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) has continued its crackdown on food safety at restaurants, and even locking and sealing certain establishments after they found standards violated.
Health Department officials inspected the kitchens of Skyye restaurant at UB City, Royal Chain Hotel, Tescon Hotel, Senchez Hotel and Madras Kitchen on Sunday, August 10. They seized and disposed of 132 kg of food articles; and 15 litres of used cooking oil.
Skyye was sealed after officials discovered large quantities of meat and vegetables which were found to be unfit for consumption. Officials said they destroyed 45kg of rotten chicken and beef, 6kg of vegetable cutlets, and 15l of used cooking oil, according to procedure.
Similarly, 50kg of duck meat and 5kg of fish were destroyed at Royal Chain Hotel; 5 kg of green peas at Madras Kitchen; 5 kg of mushrooms at Tescon Hotel; 3 kg of fish and 7 kg of cooked food including cake, potato and tacos were seized from Senchez Hotel.
These inspections continued for after the first round of inspections on Friday, August 7.
Officials destroyed expired milk, meat and bakery products seized from 26 three-star and five-star hotels across Bengaluru. Other issues officials flagged were expired food, fungal growth on vegetables, unhygienic kitchens, and improper storage of meat products.
