Karnataka to consider legalising prostitution

The News Minute | September 22, 2014 | 09:30 am ISTWith demand growing from many quarters to legalise prostitution, the Karnataka government has decided to set up a committee that would look into the possibility of legalising prostitution.Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Umashree on Sunday confirmed this during a book release function at Bangalore.The Deccan Herald reports that the Minister said the committee will comprise of experts and give the report on the pros and cons of taking such a step.The Minister said that the government will also study if rehabilitation will be a better option than legalising prostitution.The government's stand comes after demand from many prominent writers, thinkers, artists and activists in the state to legalise prostitution
