A widow from Chikkangaon village in Bidar district killed her daughters and herself allegedly because of financial problems on Thursday night.

Thirty-two-year-old Sheelabai Chauhan, belonging to the Taanda community,  killed her three daughters- Payal (11), Shilpa (9) and Saloni(6) by hanging them before killing herself.

According to Sanjeev Kumar, sub-inspector in Mudbi police station, "A woman passing by her house on Friday morning saw the body and informed the police. This was the woman's second suicide attempt in two years because of financial strain."

"While investigations are going on, what appears is that the woman, who worked as a daily wage labourer could not support her three daughters. Her husband and her in-laws had passed away and her parents lived too far away," he said.

"Last time she gave her daughters poison because of the same problem. She also had an ailing husband," he said.

The houses were not built close to each other and there was a slim chance that someone would have heard any noise, added Kumar.
