A two-year-old girl, who got trapped in a washing machine after she accidentally fell into it, was rescued in time at Kalaburagi, police said on Friday.

The child climbed an adjacent chair while playing and fell into the washing machine which was switched off, while her mother was engaged in work in the kitchen.

As the child got stuck, she cried, hearing which her mother rushed but was unable to extricate her.

Two of her neighbours rushed to the house on hearing the commotion and pulled out the child. A sickle was used to open the tub and the entire operation lasted 28 minutes, police said, adding that the incident happened on Tuesday.
