Several Kannada organisations in the state are opposed to the government's plan of trifurcating the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). According to a report by The New Indian Express, the organsiations have threatened to call for a "Bengaluru Bandh" if BBMP is divided. On Thursday, Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj, while speaking at a seminar on "Bengaluru Trifurcation and its challenges before Kannadigas and Kannada", asked members of Kannada organisations to contest all 198 wards in the BBMP polls with the motto of "One Bengaluru." “We should all support them to win. Even if we win 50 seats, we can bring change. If the government divides the civic agency, we will not pay property tax," the newspaper quotes Nagaraj as saying. President of Akhila Karnataka Dr Rajkumar Abhimani Sangha Sa Ra Govindu said, “If BBMP is divided, each agency will get a non-Kannadiga mayor. One cannot expect any good for the Kannada cause from these mayors."
