High Court summons BBMP Commissioner over Geethalakshmi's death

The News Minute | October 23, 2014 | 11.16 am ISTThe Karnataka High Court has summoned the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Commissioner in connection with the death of Geethalakshmi, a child who died after she fell into an open storm water drain.Nine-year-old Geethalakshmi fell into an open storm water drain in the Bilekahalli area on Bannerghatta Road in Bangalore, when the road was inundated under four feet of water. Her body was found in the Madiwala Lake, which is around 4 km away by road.According to a report in The Hindu, the High Court has summoned the Commissioner after he failed to respond to a notice issued by the court in connection with a PIL filed in connection with Geethalakshmi’s death. The court has asked the Commissioner to appear before the court on November 5, calling his non-appearance, the “height of irresponsibility”, and sought to know how the BBMP’s law department functions.
