FIR against Karnatak University Vice-Chancellor dismissed

The News Minute| November 27, 2014| 15.54 pm ISTThe Dharwad High Court on Thursday ordered the dismissal of FIR against Karnataka University Vice-Chancellor Dr H B Walikar.Delivering the verdict, Justice Billappa said since the Vice-Chancellor is not an employee of the University, under Karnataka State Universities Act, 2000 Sec (8/1), it is not possible to lodge an FIR against Walikar, reported Kannada Prabha.After allegations of corruption were levelled against him, Governor Vajubhai Vala who is also the Chancellor of the University ordered an investigation.The Lokayukta police along with him booked four other officers of the University in their FIR under charges corruption and cheating. They were later taken into custody for questioning. But with the High Court dismissing the FIR, the Lokyukta police have received a set-back.
