Drunk man bites Bengaluru cop’s finger in a bid to escape, gets caught anyway

Drunken people doing absurd things are often stuff that viral internet videos are made of. An incident which occurred in Bengaluru recently, though traumatic for the policeman involved, is something which will leave you shocked but also fighting an urge to chuckle.

Two men, Roshan Raja, a 33-year-old resident of Malleswaram, and Girish, a 31-year-old from Kempapura, Hebbal caught the eye of two policemen on patrol on Kodigehalli main road on Saturday.

The duo was apparently heavily inebriated.

It was around midnight when police sub-inspector Shivaraj and head constable Shanthalingu saw that they were in an argument with another group of people near the DJ bar and restaurant. Shivaraj and Shanthalingu immediately went over to try and break up the fight.

The altercation that ensued was bizarre indeed.

When the police officers asked Girish and Roshan to leave, the duo and a few others began arguing with the them, and instead, asked the police to leave.

The heated verbal argument quickly turned physical as the drunk duo began physically intimidating the policemen.

They pulled Shanthilingu’s collar, as he was still sitting in the vehicle. Roshan even managed to tear Shanthilingu’s uniform. And when the latter tried to stop the miscreant, apparently the only thing Roshan could think of doing was… to bite the head constable.

Reportedly Roshan thought the best move to help him and Girish escape was to grab hold of Shanthilingu’s right hand, and bite his thumb.

While Shanthilingu started bleeding, Roshan and Girish were unable to escape. Thanks to Shivaraj, the duo was caught and arrested. Shanthilingu meanwhile was rushed to Yelahanka General Hospital to treat the bite wound on his finger.

The Kodigehalli police have registered a case against Roshan and Girish under several sections of the IPC. They have been booked under sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to prevent public servant from discharging his duty), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of the peace) and 34 (acts committed by several people to further a common intention).

While Roshan is employed by a private firm on Old Airport Road, Girish is a contract labourer.
