Residents of a village in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district were left shocked this week after stumbling upon a gruesome scene — the dismembered body of a woman scattered across multiple locations.
The first discovery was made on the morning of Thursday, Aug 7, 2025 near the Mutyalamma Temple in Chimpuganahalli, Koratagere taluk, when locals saw a stray dog dragging a severed hand from nearby bushes. Another hand, wrapped in a plastic cover, was found a kilometre away.
In total, body parts were found in 10 locations under the jurisdictions of Koratagere and Kolala police stations.
Police later identified the victim as Lakshmidevamma, 42, a resident of Bellavi in Tumakuru taluk. Her husband Basavaraju, reported missing on August 4 after she went to visit her daughter in Urdigere the previous day but did return.
Police believe she was murdered and dismembered two days before the first discovery, with her remains deliberately dispersed to delay identification.
A special police team headed by Superintendent of Police Ashok KV is investigating the murder. Preliminary investigations suggest the killers transported the body parts in a car, disposing of them at intervals of about half a mile along Siddarabetta Road between Chimpuganahalli and Venkatapura.
Police suspect the murder occurred elsewhere before the remains were scattered late on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. Two vehicles are under suspicion, but no arrests have been made so far.
The motive behind the killing remains unknown.
