Decomposed body of 9-year-old washed away in Bangalore drain found

The News Minute | October 8, 2014 | 09:15 am IST After two days of continuous search operations, 9-year-old Geeta Lakshmi's decomposed body has finally been found in the Madiwala lake on Wednesday. The girl had fallen into a storm water drain in Bangalore on Monday night. The rescue team, comprising of the National Disaster Response Force, Civil Defence, and Fire Department, had begun search for Geeta soon after she was washed away in the drain following heavy rain on Monday evening. The JP Nagar Police have booked cases against concerned BBMP ward engineers and Major Road Infrastructure engineers for their negligence in covering the drains. Geeta was washed away in a drain in Bilekahalli on Bannerghatta Raod on Monday while the city was experiencing heavy rains. The girl was walking back home with her aunt when she slipped into the overflowing drain. Rescue operations begun soon after the incident took place, and by Tuesday morning, 25 NDRF personnel had also been deployed. Geetha, hailing from Tamil Nadu, had come to the city along with her family for Dushehra holidays.
