A 32-year-old woman has accused KR Puram police of allegedly beating her up on the pretext of interrogation, an accusation denied by the police.

According to the police, Leelavathi and her husband were found to have filed a false dacoity complaint. 

The New Indian Express reports that when the police called her to the police station twice to verify this, the woman complained of giddiness and fell, after which, they took her to the hospital.

However, at the hospital, the couple alleged that the police had beaten her up.

Leelavathi and her husband Bhundarao, a pawn broker, had filed a complaint with the police saying that a group of five men barged into their house on August 26, tied up Leelavathi’s hands and fled with 5 kg of gold ornaments and Rs 5.3 lakh.

Upon examining the CCTV footage, the police found that contrary to what the couple claimed, nobody had entered their flat. Instead, Leelavathi was seen suspiciously moving around the house. The police also found that she has in the past filed a similar false complaint at Kuppam police station in Andhra Pradesh.

“Bhundarao is scared that his wife will be arrested for filing a false complaint. When we inspected the crime scene, Bhundarao was informed that we suspected an insider’s job. He then made allegations against his employees who were at his shop when the incident took place,” an officer told TNIE.
