Child rapes in Karnataka doubled in 2013

The News Minute | July 1, 2014 | 11.09 am ISTChild rapes in Karnataka doubled in the year 2013, National Crime Records Bureau data shows.According to The New Indian Express, 270 cases of child rapes were reported in Karnataka, whereas the figure was 142 for the previous year. The figures of sexual assault on women also show a similar pattern. In 2012, 612 women reported rape. The number shot up to 1,030 the following year. The New Indian Express reported: “Karnataka recorded 12,027 crimes against women last year, which contributed to 3.89 per cent of the total crimes against women in India.”
