Boeing has laid off approximately 180 employees at its Boeing India Engineering Technology Center (BIETC) in Bengaluru as part of a global workforce reduction initiative. The layoffs, which took place during the December quarter of 2024, were described as part of a “strategic adjustment” affecting a limited number of positions while ensuring no adverse impact on customer service, government operations, or safety standards.
The move aligns with Boeing’s previously announced plan to reduce its global workforce by around 10%. According to reports, the company has restructured certain roles while creating new positions in other areas. The reductions in India were reportedly more measured compared to other regions, with a continued emphasis on supporting customers and maintaining operational excellence.
Of Boeing’s approximately 7,000 employees in India, nearly 6,500 are based at BIETC in Bengaluru and Chennai. These centers handle advanced aerospace engineering work and play a key role in Boeing’s global operations. Boeing’s fully owned engineering and technology campus in Bengaluru, which was inaugurated in January 2024, represents one of the company’s largest investments outside the United States.
