BJP MP Tejasvi Surya announced on Sunday, July 6, that he has approached the Karnataka High Court over the alleged “arbitrary” and “opaque” conduct of the Congress-led state government and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for not making the Metro Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) Report public yet.

Implemented on February 9, 2025, the fare revision raised the maximum ticket fare from Rs 60 to Rs 90, triggering a backlash from commuters.

The Bengaluru South MP criticised the lack of transparency, saying that while other metro systems like Delhi have made their FFC reports public, Bengaluru has kept it hidden. “Every other metro system in the country, including Delhi, has made its FFC reports public. Why is Bengaluru the exception? What is the government trying to hide?” Surya wrote on social media X.

He said that the committee undertook foreign visits on public money and made sweeping recommendations, yet its findings were being kept away from the very people it affected.

He claimed that the drastic increase has led to a sharp decline in ridership, making Bengaluru Metro the most expensive in India and burdening middle-class commuters. Despite repeated requests and RTI applications over the past three months, the FFC report remained undisclosed, he alleged.

“There is no national security concern here. Then why the secrecy? Why is CM Siddaramaiah refusing to release it?”

He added, “Public transport must be affordable, reliable, and above all, accountable to the public, who fund and use it. This fight is for transparency and fairness. This fight is for Bengaluru.”

The case is scheduled for hearing in the Karnataka High Court on July 7.
