The victim Revathi (38) is a resident of Vijayanagar and works as a social worker, according to reports. The money was meant to arrange a medical seat for a friend's sister in a private college in Bengaluru.

Through her friends, Revathi found out about an agent, identified as Vinod. Vinod and his friend Rakesh promised a medical seat to Revathi if she paid Rs 13 lakh and Rakesh and asked her to procure the money, reported The Hindu.

Running from pillar to post, she finally managed to arrange for the money with help from friends and also by pledging her property documents. But on Tuesday, the deal took an ugly turn for Revathi as two men approached her on a bike and snatched the bag away as she was walking into the IISc campus.

Revathi cried out for help, but the two men quickly fled from the spot. Revathi reportedly tried to call Vinod, who was supposed to meet her at the location, but he did not respond. She later filed a complaint at the Sadashivanagar Police Station, according to The Hindu.

The police suspect Rakesh and Vinod had planned and engineered the robbery together, and are investigating the incident. The police suspect that they laid a trap for the victim since Vinod did not respond to Revathi's calls on the day of the meeting even though he had chosen the meeting spot and had instructed her to come to the IISc campus for the exchange.

The police are also analysing CCTV footage inside the campus to identify the culprits. “The security personnel posted at the gate was only check incoming vehicles and visitors, but cars going out of the campus pass unchecked,” a senior police officer said, speaking to Deccan Herald. Further investigations are underway.
