South-Western Railways (SWR) is all set to run a morning train service from Majestic to Whitefield in Bengaluru.

The train that starts from Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (Bengaluru City) station at Majestic at 8 45 am will reach Whitefield in less than an hour’s time, reports The Times of India.

The train service between Ramanagara and Bengaluru will be extended to make this possible in a month’s time.

The first train from Bengaluru to Ramanagara departs at 5 20 am, that returns to Bengaluru City at 8 45 am. This service will be further extended to Whitefield and will return back to Bengaluru city at 11.10 am.

The decision comes days after a citizen forum Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB) launched a campaign “Chuku Buku Beku” demanding a well-connected suburban local train network in the city.

The campaign on Saturday saw many citizens take a rail yatra from Cantonment station to Whitefiled in KSR-Bangarpet MEMU, to highlight the necessity of local trains. A day after this, Union Minister Ananth Kumar assured that development works will be taken up soon.

The new train service is extended to decongest the city, of the heavy traffic in the peak hours of morning.

“This will help ease peak-hour traffic and benefit many who travel to Whitefield,” Sanjiv Agarwal, division railway manager of Bengaluru division, SWR, told TOI. He added that the train will halt at Cantonment, Bengaluru east, Byappanahalli, KR Puram and Hoodi stations.
